Reducing the number of students dropping out of higher education in computer science and information systems, two fields characterized by high dropout rates. The project took place at the University of Haifa and Tel Aviv-Yaffo Academic College, where students were offered support in various areas – emotional, academic, financial, and employment to ensure they succeed in their studies. Most are Arab-Israelis, and many are first-generation higher education students.
Dropout rates were reduced by an average of 50%. The intervention program was embedded within the institutions: at the University of Haifa, a unit was established to reduce dropout rates, and Tel Aviv-Yaffo Academic College made a commitment to become Israel's impact college. In a survey conducted among graduates, 94% reported being employed in tech jobs.
The Council for Higher Education emphasizes the issue of reducing dropout rates. The project is being expanded to additional institutions that are expected to implement the new practices.
